LITHONIA, Georgia. – Eight days before election day in crucial Georgia Senate runoff contests, Democratic candidates Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock are “warning” about their ability to keep up with Republican spending, calling for a “significant increase” in the grassroots donations to avoid running out of money.
“To win this election in 8 days, we need to continue our historic efforts to attract all voters – but we will not be able to do that if our fundraising revenue continues to decline,” said Warnock campaign manager Jerid Kurtz and Ossoff manager Ellen Foster wrote in a memo obtained by NBC News.
According to financial disclosure forms, Warnock and Ossoff have raised more than $ 100 million in the past two months, outpacing their Republican opponents, Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, by a significant margin. But groups outside the Republican Party are spending more than Democratic groups.
“This means that our Republican colleagues do not need to spend so much of their precious resources on TV and can invest in the area that is most important at this stage: direct contact with voters,” says the memo.
In an election that is likely to depend on how many voters each side can stand, Democrats warn that they will soon have to choose between spending on television ads and quoting on the ground. “Our campaigns had to make difficult decisions and, at the moment, we cannot cut resources from our field program,” write Democratic campaign managers.
More than 2 million Georgians have already voted at the start of second round elections, according to the office of the Secretary of State for Georgia. Election day is next Tuesday, January 5th.
