During this conversation with Fight Hub TV, Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya shares some thoughts on what he thought of Canelo Alvarez’s last performance while talking about Ryan Garcia’s fight tomorrow against Luke Campbell. Check out some excerpts below …
De La Hoya on Canelo’s performance against Callum Smith:
“He was great. He was wonderful. I would obviously love for him to play more combinations. He could have stopped him if he wanted to. I think he was phenomenal, I think he did a wonderful job, but he needs more work when it comes to letting go of his blows. I think he is very accommodating now. He’s in a place where he says ‘Okay, I’m going to punch, one powerful shot, two shots’, but at the same time you have to make sure that the fans are having a show. You have to go out there, like a Ryan Garcia, go out there and you are exciting. But other than that, he was phenomenal. “
Still planning to do business with Canelo going forward:
“Well, I mean, look, he’s a free agent now and then, obviously, it’s all about the money. Therefore, I am very sure that we can present him with a very profitable business in the near future, which will allow him to once again fight under the banner of the Golden Boy. “
On how confident he is, Ryan Garcia will beat Luke Campbell in an impressive way:
“I think the fact that Ryan Garcia is a hard worker and he has the ‘it’ factor. That’s basically it. He has the ‘that factor’, he is a fighter who has talent, he has a chin, he has speed, he has the combinations, a great corner, but he has that ‘that’ factor and that is what makes the difference ”.
