The nominations for best supporting actress went to Maria Bakalova for “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”, Glenn Close for “Hillbilly Elegy”, Olivia Colman for “The Father”, Amanda Seyfried for “Mank”, Yuh-Jung Youn for “Minari”.

Other initial nominations were for Chloé Zhao, for her script adapted for “Nomadland”, and Emerald Fennell, for her original script for “Promising Young Woman”. Baron Cohen was also nominated for his “Borat” script.

Plagued by a pandemic and forced into a long season of awards that left consultants, movie stars and studio executives with bleary eyes from Q. and The virtual and video ceremonies, Hollywood will finally reach the official Oscar countdown the morning Monday, when nominations for the 93rd annual Academy Award are announced.

This was a year in which streaming was established in Hollywood, thanks to the shutdowns of cinemas caused by the coronavirus. Competitors like “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, “Mank”, “One Night in Miami” and “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” were launched by companies like Netflix and Amazon. Even releases from traditional studios, like Searchlight’s “Nomadland” and Warner Bros. “Judas and the Black Messiah,” were probably watched by more people on streaming services than the limited number of cinemas that could show them.

And with most studios postponing their move to higher budget prizes to 2021 in anticipation of the resurgence of the theatrical market, most films destined to become nominated for Best Picture were not as flashy or star-studded as usual. This created more award opportunities for smaller budget films with more diverse casts, directed by a more diverse group of directors.

Expect Netflix to once again be the leader in nominations; last year, he received 24, but came out with only two wins. This year, the streaming service has three films in contention for best film: the homemade “Mank” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, for which Chadwick Boseman will certainly receive a posthumous nomination for best actor and “The Trial of the Chicago 7” , which he acquired from Paramount Pictures, Amazon Studios has “One Night in Miami” and “Sound of Metal” in the mix in several categories, and can win a little love for “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” in the adapted script, supporting actress and even in the categories of best film.

The Oscar ceremony, which was postponed for two months because of the pandemic, will be held on April 25. Here are some other things to look for on Monday morning.

Time is not a reliable construction in the race for this year’s awards. With two months added to the nomination process, conventional thinking was thrown out the window.

Films that premiered after the first day of the year, such as “Judas and the Black Messiah”, which premiered at this year’s virtual Sundance Film Festival, have grown in popularity with audiences and critics. And they are competing with films like “Sound of Metal”, which debuted at the previous year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Without traditional touch points, such as parties, premieres and film festivals to inform voters about what to watch when, a film’s streaming debut has become even more important. “Nomadland” – which first aired at the Venice Film Festival ages ago, but did not reach the streaming service Hulu until February – has been gaining traction with awards, while films that have become available to a wider audience on Netflix in beginning of 2020, like as “Mank”, I feel that they are running out of breath.

There was never more than one woman nominated for best director in a year, and only five women were nominated in the category in the Academy’s nearly 100-year history.

This year can change that.

Chloé Zhao is not just a chance to be nominated for “Nomadland”, she is the favorite to win, having won the Golden Globe and nominated for the BAFTA and Directors Guild awards. She will be the first Chinese woman to be nominated for an Oscar for best director.

Other women could join her as a board nominee, including Emerald Fennell (“Promising young woman”) and Regina King (“One night in Miami”). If Ms. King is nominated, she will be the first black woman recognized in what has traditionally been a very white and very masculine category.

Riz Ahmed can guarantee a nomination for best actor for his role in “Sound of Metal”. He would be the first Muslim to be recognized in the category.

If “Judas and the Black Messiah” gets a nomination for best film, it will be the first time that a team of all-black producers (formed by director Shaka King, Ryan Coogler and Charles D. King) has been recognized in the category.

Two actors of Asian descent can also be nominated for best actor: Steven Yeun (“Minari”) and Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”). Ahmed would be the first Muslim to be named as the best actor. In the supporting actor category, if Alan Kim, the 8-year-old “Minari” star, gets a nod, he can join Justin Henry (“Kramer vs. Kramer”) to distinguish the youngest actors ever nominated .
