Oregon salon owner sues governor for $ 100G over coronavirus fine

An Oregon beauty salon owner has filed a new lawsuit against Governor Kate Brown over fines for opening her business during a coronavirus shutdown, according to reports.

Glamor Salon owner Lindsey Graham reopened her salon in May and received a $ 14,000 fine from the state.

Now, she is suing the governor for $ 100,000 in damages due to the closure and the fine issued against her.

The lawsuit, opened on Dec. 18, claims that the closure of private companies “has caused the greatest negative health effects for Oregon residents in the form of increased stress, anxiety and depression,” KATU reported.

Graham says Brown has no authority to close private deals that can demonstrate that they can operate safely and meet government requirements.

“If we can all get back to work and feed our families, then I will continue to do that,” said Graham. “It is my constitutional right to make a living for my family and I will do that.”

Graham also said that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration closed his case, considering his business a “dangerous facility” for his employees.

“I have independent contractors who are choosing to work at this unit,” explained Graham.

Oregon instituted strict blocking measures in March, trying to slow the spread with its “Stay home, save lives” initiative.

After nearly two months of blockade, Oregon allowed a limited reopening in May: counties had to demonstrate a declining prevalence of COVID-19, as well as extensive contact tracking.

Graham filed a lawsuit for the first time in July against the Oregon Department of Human Services and the Public Health Division, claiming that the fine was illegal, Oregon Live reported.

“It is to prevent Americans from losing their livelihood,” Graham said in his first lawsuit.
