Oregon reports daily record of 54 COVID-19 deaths, 1,203 new cases

PORTLAND, Oregon. (KTVZ) – There are 54 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, drawing the daily record and increasing the number of deaths in the state to 1,667, the Oregon Health Authority reported on Tuesday.

“The high number of deaths serves as a reminder that the pandemic continues to pose a threat to our friends, neighbors, co-workers and communities,” said the OHA press release late Tuesday afternoon.

The rising case count that skyrocketed in November and December is a factor attributed to the record number of deaths on Tuesday.

The death count from death certificates can take some time to be processed because they are determined by doctors and then sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further review before the cause of death is finally determined.

Once this information is confirmed, the information is reported back with a final cause of death to the states. This delay indicator is now being captured on Tuesday.

OHA also reported 1,203 new confirmed and presumed cases of COVID-19 at 0:01 today, bringing the state total to 127,780.

Vaccinations in Oregon

On Tuesday, 10,465 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines were added to the state’s immunization registry. Of that total, 6,668 doses of vaccine were administered on Monday and 3,797 were administered in the previous days, but entered the vaccine register on Monday.

Oregon has administered a cumulative total of 115,060 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. All vaccinations were administered by Oregon hospitals, long-term care facilities, emergency medical service agencies (EMS), urgent care facilities and Local Public Health Authorities (LPHAs).

These data are preliminary and subject to change.

St. Charles Health System reported giving 4,539 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

OHA panels provide regularly updated vaccination data.

COVID-19 Hospitalizations

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across Oregon is 403, six fewer than on Monday. There are 93 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, nine more than on Monday.

The total number of patients in hospital beds can fluctuate between reporting times. The figures do not reflect hospitalizations per day, nor the length of stay. Personnel limitations are not captured in this data and can further limit the capacity of beds.

More information about the hospital’s capacity can be found here.
