Oregon reports another 21 deaths from COVID-19, 1,037 new cases; 173K main vaccinations

PORTLAND, Oregon. (KTVZ) – There are 21 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, increasing the number of deaths in the state to 1,758, along with 1,037 new cases, the Oregon Health Authority reported on Friday.

The Oregon Health Authority reported 1,037 new confirmed and presumed cases of COVID-19 at 0:01 AM on Friday, bringing the state total to 131,258.

Vaccinations in Oregon

On Friday, the Oregon Health Authority reported that 26,936 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines were added to the state’s immunization registry. Of that total, 10,618 doses of vaccine were administered on Thursday and 16,318 were administered in previous days, but entered the vaccine register on Thursday.

Based on the updated totals, the Oregon Health Authority is meeting Governor Kate Brown’s goal of ensuring 12,000 vaccinations a day. The governor demanded that the benchmark be achieved by the end of the two-week period that started on January 4.

Cumulative daily totals can take several days to complete because providers have 72 hours to report administered doses and technical challenges have caused many providers to delay their reports, OHA said. The Oregon Health Authority has provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the opportunity for their data entry into the state’s ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS).

Oregon has administered a cumulative total of 173,073 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. All vaccinations were administered by Oregon hospitals, long-term care facilities, emergency medical service agencies (EMS), urgent care facilities and Local Public Health Authorities (LPHAs).

To date, 326,300 doses of the vaccine have been distributed in locations in Oregon.

These data are preliminary and are subject to change. OHA panels provide regularly updated vaccination data.

The St. Charles Health System reported giving 6,264 Pfizer BioNTech vaccines early Friday. He also told NewsChannel 21 that 68% of caregivers were vaccinated.
