Oregon reports 24 more deaths from COVID-19, 704 new cases

PORTLAND, Oregon. (KTVZ) – There are 24 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, increasing the number of deaths in the state to 1,832, the Oregon Health Authority said on Wednesday.

OHA also reported 704 new confirmed and presumed cases of COVID-19 at 00:01 on Wednesday, bringing the state total to 135,142.

Vaccinations in Oregon

The OHA reported on Wednesday that 13,694 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations have been added to the state’s immunization registry. Of that total, 8,570 doses of vaccine were administered on Tuesday and 5,124 were administered in the previous days, but entered the vaccine register on Tuesday.

Cumulative daily totals can take several days to complete because providers have 72 hours to report administered doses and technical challenges have caused many providers to delay reporting.

OHA has provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the timeliness of their data entry into the state’s ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS).

Oregon has administered a cumulative total of 238,760 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. All vaccines were administered by Oregon hospitals, long-term care facilities, emergency medical service agencies (EMS), urgent care facilities and Local Public Health Authorities (LPHAs).

To date, 436,250 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to locations in Oregon.

These data are preliminary and are subject to change.

The St. Charles Health System reported that it gave 7,755 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines on Wednesday.

OHA panels provide regularly updated vaccination data and the Oregon panel was updated on Wednesday.

COVID-19 Hospitalizations

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across Oregon is 336, eight more than on Tuesday. There are 90 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, two less than on Tuesday.

The total number of patients in hospital beds can fluctuate between reporting times. The figures do not reflect hospitalizations per day, nor the length of stay. Personnel limitations are not captured in this data and can further limit the capacity of beds.

St. Charles Bend reported 26 patients with COVID-19 by 4 am on Wednesday, five of whom were in the ICU, four on ventilators.

More information about the hospital’s capacity can be found here.
