Oregon Health Authority reports 10 more deaths from COVID-19, 867 new cases

‘Technical problems’ decreased the number of daily cases, says the agency

PORTLAND, Oregon. (KTVZ) – COVID-19 claimed an additional 10 lives in Oregon, increasing the state’s death toll to 1,568, the Oregon Health Authority said on Thursday.

The OHA also reported 867 new confirmed and presumed cases of COVID-19 at 0:01 am on Thursday, bringing the state total to 121,085.

Today’s case count is lower than expected because of technical problems, the agency said.

Vaccinations in Oregon

On Thursday, OHA registered 5,249 doses of vaccine administered – including 995 doses of seconds – increasing the total number of doses administered in the state to 66,920.

This figure is based on preliminary reports of 3,429 doses administered on Thursday, as well as 1,820 doses administered in previous days that had not been recorded. All vaccinations took place in Oregon hospitals, long-term care facilities, emergency medical service agencies (EMS), urgent care facilities and Local Public Health Authorities (LPHAs).

To date, 250,100 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to locations across Oregon.

The St. Charles Health System said it gave 2,462 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines on Thursday.

COVID-19 Hospitalizations

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across Oregon is 462, 18 less than on Wednesday. There are 91 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, which is 29 fewer than on Wednesday.

St. Charles Bend reported 32 patients with COVID-19 on Thursday, six of whom were in the ICU, four on ventilators.

The total number of patients in hospital beds can fluctuate between reporting times. The figures do not reflect hospitalizations per day, nor the length of stay. Personnel limitations are not captured in this data and can further limit the capacity of beds.

The death of 1,559th COVID-19 in Oregon was an 88-year-old woman in Marion County, who tested positive on December 3 and died on January 3 at her home. She had underlying conditions.

COVID-19’s 1,560th death in Oregon was a 74-year-old man in Clackamas County who tested positive on December 22 and died on January 2 at the Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center. The presence of underlying conditions is being confirmed.

The death of 1,561st COVID-19 in Oregon was an 85-year-old woman in Tillamook County who tested positive on December 29 and died on January 5 at her home. She had underlying conditions.

The death of COVID-19 1,562 in Oregon was that of a 56-year-old man in Umatilla County, whose test was positive on December 30 and died on January 2 at his home. He had underlying conditions.

The death of COVID-19 1,563 in Oregon was that of an 87-year-old man in Washington County who tested positive on December 14 and died on December 20 at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. He had underlying conditions.

COVID-19’s 1,568th death in Oregon was an 81-year-old man in Josephine County who tested positive on December 15 and died on December 26 at his home. He had underlying conditions.
