Oregon Ducks QB Tyler Shough, who started all seven games in 2020, passing as a graduate transfer

Oregon Ducks quarterback Tyler Shough announced on Friday that he has entered the transfer portal.

In a social media post, Shough said he will have three years of remaining eligibility and will leave Oregon as a graduate transfer.

Shough won the initial job at the fall camp in 2020 and started all seven games for the Ducks, but was replaced in the team’s bowl game for long periods by reserve Anthony Brown. Oregon lost 34-17 to Iowa State at the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, with Shough completing 7 of 9 passes for 79 yards and an interception.

“There was enough clarity to start Tyler, which we did,” said coach Mario Cristobal after the game, “but Anthony played well enough to consider him deserved, and we did.”

The Oregon season was delayed until November because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but when Shough finally took the field, he performed well, throwing eight touchdowns and just two interceptions in his first three games, all of Oregon’s victories. . But the Ducks faltered in the home stretch, losing three of four at the end of the season, and Shough saw his role diminish behind Brown, a transfer graduate from Boston College with extensive experience as a player.

For the year, Shough completed 63.5% of his shots with 13 passing TDs and six interceptions.

“I would like to thank my coaches in Oregon for the opportunity and the many lessons learned over the past three years,” said Shough in a statement posted on his Twitter. “A big thank you to the fans and the community of Eugene for welcoming me here and making this place special.”

Brown announced last month that he would return to Oregon for the 2021 season. The Ducks also hired four-star recruit Ty Thompson in the 2021 class. Thompson was ranked No. 67 on this year’s ESPN 300.
