Oregon again does not report any new deaths from COVID-19; the case count drops to 184 amid snow, ice

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) – For a second consecutive day, there are no COVID-19-related deaths recently reported in Oregon and the death toll in the state remains at 2,137, the Oregon Health Authority reported on Monday, noting that the storm of winter probably reduced case count and laboratory results.

The OHA also reported 184 new confirmed and presumed cases of COVID-19 at 0:01 AM on Monday, the lowest count in months, bringing the state total to 150,464.

Observation: Electronic lab results and case counts are lower than expected on Monday, the OHA said. This is probably related to the winter weather event and dangerous travel conditions.

Vaccinations in Oregon

On Monday, OHA reported that 6,693 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines were added to the state’s immunization registry. Of that total, 3,650 doses were administered on Sunday and 3,043 were administered on previous days, but entered the vaccine record on Sunday.

Cumulative daily totals can take several days to complete because providers have 72 hours to report administered doses and technical challenges have caused many providers to delay reporting. OHA has provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the opportunity for their data entry into the state’s ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS).

Oregon has administered a cumulative total of 683,887 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. To date, 885,250 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to locations across Oregon.

These data are preliminary and are subject to change. OHA panels provide regularly updated vaccination data, and the Oregon panel was updated on Monday.

Observation: The reduced number of administrations is likely the result of bad weather, OHA said.

The St. Charles Health System reported 23,066 COVID-19 vaccinations given Monday morning.

COVID-19 Hospitalizations

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across Oregon is 210, three fewer than on Sunday. There are 53 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, one more than on Monday.

St. Charles Bend reported 14 patients with COVID-19 at 4 am on Monday. Five of the patients were admitted to the ICU, three of them on ventilation.

The total number of patients in hospital beds can fluctuate between reporting times. The figures do not reflect hospitalizations per day, nor the length of stay. Personnel limitations are not captured in this data and can further limit the capacity of beds.

More information about the hospital’s capacity can be found here.

1 Includes cases confirmed by diagnostic tests and presumed cases. Presumed cases are those without a positive diagnostic test that show symptoms similar to those of COVID-19 and had close contact with a confirmed case. The county of residence for cases may change as new information becomes available. If changes occur, we will update our counts accordingly.
