Orange County reported 1,028 new cases and 30 new deaths on February 5 – Orange County Register

The Orange County Health Agency reported 1,028 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, increasing the cumulative total in the county to 236,338 cases since the screening began.

The agency reported 30 new deaths, bringing the total number of people who died from coronavirus to 3,279.

The county also reported 1,233 patients in local hospitals, 5 less than in the previous report. There were 342 patients listed in intensive care units on Friday, a decline of 23 people from the previous day.

It is estimated that 14,821 cases of the virus have been reported in Orange County in the past 14 days.

The county update said 2,748,226 tests have been performed for the coronavirus since testing started locally, with at least 15,006 new tests since the previous report.

Of the 3,279 cumulative deaths reported by the virus, 857 were qualified nursing residents, 359 were in assisted living facilities, one was an OC inmate and five were listed as homeless.

Data on deaths in the county are compiled from death certificates or collected during case investigations and can take weeks to process. The most recent death recorded was on January 24.

The breakdown of deaths by age in the county is as follows:

  • 17 and younger: 0.03% (1)
  • 18-24: 0.18% (6)
  • 25-34: 1.10% (36)
  • 35-44: 6% (72)
  • 45-54: 6.56% (215, up to 3)
  • 55-64: 13.21% (433, up to 3)
  • 75-84: 23.76% (779, up to 12)
  • 85 and older: 33.82% (1,109, up to 9)

It is estimated that 195,526 people have recovered from the virus by Friday. The count of people who recovered is based on the cumulative case count from the previous 28 days.
