Opening of WandaVision causes classic Marvel comics, Jessica Jones character

After spending a year and a half out of the spotlight, Marvel Studios came back hard on Friday, when the studio finally released the first two episodes of WandaVision for the masses. In the blink of an eye, the series became the subject of social media, as fans joined in the speech, discussing the various mysteries the series revealed. Fortunately for fans, the series also comes packed with Easter eggs; there’s the nod to the Grim Reaper in one scene, or the fact that one of the backstage scenes shows a reference image of Wonder Man. Now, fans saw an Easter egg, one of Marvel’s oldest characters – who also managed to appear on Jessica Jones at one point.

Some spoilers ahead for the first two episodes of WandaVision. Proceed with caution if you haven’t seen the show yet!

Just as Kevin Feige and his team joked, WandaVision is a tribute to the comedies of the past – honoring mid-century programs like I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Bewitched. It’s actually a nod to one of those programs where a Whizzer Easter egg can be found. In the opening credits of “Episode 2”, which follows the model of the introduction of Illustration, fans noticed that a small statue of Whizzer can be seen on a corner table near the sofa that Wanda and Vision are sitting on.

At one point in the Marvel tradition, Robert Frank – the original Whizzer – was portrayed as the father of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Soon, however, like many other comic book origins, this was reworked and changed – but someone at Marvel Studios hasn’t forgotten.

A version of the character also appeared in the second season of Jessica Jones, played by Jay Klaitz. In the series, Jones assumed that Robert Coleman was a paranoid lunatic when, in fact, he had been experimented by IGH. These experiments gave him super speed, something that Jones soon discovered.

The first two episodes of WandaVision are now broadcasting on Disney + while all three seasons of Jessica Jones can be consumed on Netflix.
