Opening of 7 new COVID-19 vaccination sites for the elderly, says the governor

LYNN HAVEN, Florida – Governor Ron DeSantis talked about making the COVID-19 vaccine available to older people on Sunday.

DeSantis made the announcement during a press conference at Lynn Haven Senior Center in Lynn Haven.

After his comments, health professionals began to administer the vaccine to the first of about 500 elderly people who would be inoculated in that location on Sunday.

“This is important,” said DeSantis. “This is a site that will be replicated across the state in a number of different areas. But we really believe that ensuring that these vaccines reach all segments of the community is important and we think that working with our houses of worship is a way that you you can do it. “

Seven sites, many of them working together with predominantly Black churches, will start vaccinating elderly people on Sunday.

The locations are located in Lynn Haven, Tallahassee, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Port St. Lucie, Tampa and Jacksonville.

“Our priority is to provide vaccines for 65 years or older, our elderly citizens. We are putting the elderly first,” said DeSantis. “We will continue to work hard until all the elderly who wish to obtain it. Hopefully, we are scheduled to receive about 250,000 additional vaccines – first doses – next week. I would like to receive more. I asked if we could potentially get more. “
