OnePlus is working on a smartwatch and plans to launch it early next year, the company’s CEO revealed on Twitter. Pete Lau has confirmed reports circulating a few months ago that the Chinese manufacturer revived its smartwatch ambitions years after its first attempt. In 2016, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei shared sketches of a circular smartwatch design after the company has already scrapped its plans for the wearable. Apparently, the manufacturer decided to focus on smartphones at the time and ended its projects not connected to the phone.
Many of you said you wanted a watch and, as you might have heard over the weekend, we are making one to be released early next year. Wishes come true.🎁 https://t.co/H1Fqv9srXj

Seeing how the company has launched products that are not smartphones since then – it launched the OnePlus Buds a few months ago, for example – it is not so difficult to imagine it targeting the smartwatch market. Lau did not share any details about the new wearable, so it is unclear whether it will maintain the old circular design.
