OnePlus 9 ‘Morning Mist’ color depicted in official images

The OnePlus 9 Pro is scheduled to make its debut in just over a week, and the company’s advertising campaign is in full swing with teasers and now just a dump of images showing the OnePlus 9 Pro in a mirror finish option called “Misty Morning.”

In a forum post this afternoon, OnePlus revealed an image gallery showing the OnePlus 9 Pro in a new colorway. This new option, based on silver, is called “Morning Mist”. OnePlus explains that this new color slowly changes from a blurry appearance at the top of the device to a mirrored finish at the bottom, also turning from silver to black at the edges.

Morning Mist is the first time that we use gradient refraction for CMF. The film coating on the rear changes from a mist or diffusion level of 60 degrees at the top to 20 degrees at the bottom. The practical effect is that when you add a reflective glass, it fades beautifully from a hazy finish at the top to a mirror look at the bottom.

In renderings, it is certainly an attractive look, and personally, I am sure it is just as great. When I first saw the “Morning Mist” colorway for OnePlus 9 Pro, my first thought was that it must be a huge fingerprint magnet. Based only on the description of the OnePlus, this phone is certainly brilliant, as are all phones with a mirror finish. I’m sure some people will like this, but it’s a shame to see OnePlus throwing away the excellent matte finish of its OnePlus 8, 7 and, hell, even 6T devices.
