OnePlus 9 does not have Verizon, AT&T 5G, pre-orders in advance

The OnePlus 9 is here, but there are many things you may have missed at the launch event. Here are some details about the OnePlus 9 series that were not emphasized, including how the OnePlus 9 pre-order time will work, the lack of 5G support and more.

The OnePlus 9 series has some 5G quirks

Verizon’s compatibility has always been a little frustrating with OnePlus phones, and this year there is a new hiccup. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are limited to 4G LTE only on Verizon Wireless, although they have the necessary hardware to support the operator’s 5G network.

5G, at least in the US, is still quite limited in scope with Verizon’s national network often offering the same speeds as LTE and the super-fast mmWave range virtually nonexistent for the vast majority of customers. This means that it is not a huge loss, but it is a bit annoying, as these phones come with the letter “5G” printed on the box. Notably, too, OnePlus has not confirmed whether the OnePlus 9 will arrive at Verizon as a model sold by the operator, despite the phone arriving at T-Mobile.

In a press release, OnePlus states that “it continues to work with Verizon to certify 9 and 9 Pro on its 5G network”.

In addition to Verizon, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro simply do not support 5G connections at AT&T.

You can only order the high-end OnePlus 9 Pro

As usual, prices for OnePlus smartphones have soared this year with the OnePlus 9 Pro starting at $ 969. However, if you want to place an order, you will pay more. Through OnePlus.com, the only pre-order options are the $ 729 OnePlus 9 and the top $ 1,069 OnePlus 9 Pro. Presumably, that will change when these phones go on sale, but it is strange that things are currently limited.

When we asked OnePlus about this, the company confirmed that pre-orders will go live on March 26th, with today’s pre-orders being just an earlier opportunity for selected models. Those who manage to place orders today will see orders shipped on the 26th.

Dual-SIM disappeared on US OnePlus 9 models

If you are living in the USA, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are abandoning a useful feature: dual-SIM connectivity. When you open the SIM card slot, there is only one SIM slot on all US models. This happened with special OnePlus carrier models produced in the past, but this applies to models unlocked in the United States this year as well. Shame.

Durability is very good!

JerryRigEverything took advantage of early access to the OnePlus 9 Pro to do a durability test and the phone resisted very well! You can check out the video to see for yourself, but the TL; DW is that the phone survived scratches, fire and bend testing, only kind of giving that last test.
