One of the biggest buffs in patch 11.0 was an unlisted change to the special Wii Fit Trainer’s Header in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Patch 11.0.0 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate added Pyra & Mythra as a DLC and applied some very significant adjustments to the game’s balance. Characters like Captain Falcon, Ganondorf, Pichu, King Dedede and Byleth received some cool buffs for their kits. Meanwhile, some fighters like Palutena, Joker, Wario and Zero Suit Samus were slightly nerfed.

However, it appears that one of the most impactful fans hasn’t even been listed on Nintendo’s patch notes. One of the best attacks on the Wii Fit Trainer, the Header, received a significant reduction in its landing recovery. It may be even more accurate to say that your landing recovery has been completely removed.

Prior to patch 11.0.0, the Wii Fit Trainer would require about 9 recovery frames after landing your Header – which always made it fly. The latest update meant that the Wii Fit Trainer’s only landing recovery frames are now determined by the game’s forced landing recovery frames – which are 4 frames. This means that the Wii Fit Trainer is always automatically canceling its header now.

In other words, the Wii Fit Trainer will now recover in 4 frames after landing from its special Header instead of 9 frames. When used close to the ground, the Wii Fit Trainer now recovers 5 frames earlier than before.

Since the Wii Fit Trainer Header is an essential part of your game plan, this single buff is likely to have a significant impact on the goal of the Wii Fit Trainer in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In addition to improving the Wii Fit Trainer’s zoning options, she can now more easily use her special Header in her combos. With the right setup, these header combos and conversions can be extremely damaging. Wii Fit Trainer also has new death confirmations thanks to the chandelier.

Why was this change made in the first place? According to Invy, members of the Japanese Wii Fit Discord reportedly contacted the Super Smash Bros. development team. Ultimate and alerted them to a certain bug related to the Wii Fit Trainer Header.

This bug apparently disabled the use of the Header if the Wii Fit Trainer landed during the Sun Salutation or Deep Breathing cancellation. It seems that the solution was to end the recovery of change.

Although this is a significant increase for the Wii Fit Trainer, the data on the movement chart is not completely absurd as a result of this change. Running as fast as possible, the Wii Fit Trainer’s Header now requires 48 frames instead of 53 frames on flat terrain. Of course, this can be accelerated a little more with Deep Breathing active and the special Header staled.

However, executing the “quick version” of the Header will hit the ball very high, which is more ideal for striking aerial approaches. To hit the low ball, Wii Fit Trainer users need to delay hitting the ball by an additional 3-4 frames from the fastest possible boot time.

At the moment, it is not known whether this is a change that will remain or be rolled back in a future patch. As the primary trainer for Wii Fit, I hope you are here to stay.
