One million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to be sent to pharmacies in Florida – NBC 6 South Florida

Walmart and Sam’s Club they are expected to send 1 million doses of the coveted COVID-19 vaccine to pharmacies across Florida this week, with vaccination scheduled to start on Thursday.

Remittances are being received as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. The program aims to accelerate the distribution of vaccines and, eventually, expand to 40,000 pharmacies.

Across the country, 6,500 pharmacies will be receiving the vaccine.

Pharmacies in Miami-Dade and Broward counties are expecting substantial shipments, according to Florida lawmakers. But getting the vaccine won’t be as easy as getting in and getting the flu shot.

A consultation is required to receive the vaccine, and you must comply with the eligibility requirements. In Florida, priority is given to seniors aged 65 and over and frontline healthcare professionals.

An online tool for scheduling appointments through pharmacies should be launched in the coming days.

Leading health officials say most people should be successful in making appointments in the coming months.

“Things will get better as we move from February to March through April because the number of vaccine doses that will be available will increase substantially,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci.

In South Florida, vaccinations continue for those most in need.

700 independent, living-assisted residents in the John Knox Village community in Pompano Beach, for example, will receive their first dose of the vaccine tomorrow.

So far, 1,326,136 people in Florida have received their first dose of the vaccine.

667,830 people were fully vaccinated.
