LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – Authorities are investigating after emergency teams, responding to a fire in a ditch in rural Marion, discovered a dead woman at the scene.
At 3:14 pm on Sunday, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office received a call to 911 on Gillmore Road Block 3000 for an out-of-control fire.
When the crews arrived, they discovered a fire in the ditch that spread out of control with the female who was responding to the fire on the ground, shrouded in flames and smoke.
The woman received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are withholding the woman’s name pending notification of close relatives.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by the State Fire Department Office.
Representatives for the Linn County Sheriff, Sheriff Rescue 57, Marion Fire, Alburnett Fire and Area Ambulance responded to the incident.
