Once you have the vaccination card, what do you do with it?

March 17 – As Ohio opens vaccines to more people, more people are getting a vaccination card from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, raising the question: “what should I do with it?”

Writing on the Wexner Medical Center blog at Ohio State University, pharmacy manager Jeff Pilz said people should bring the card along with a photo ID for their second vaccine appointment and then keep the card in one place insurance in case you need it later.

For extra protection, he said you can laminate the card if you have access to a machine and recommended taking a photo of the card on a smartphone for reference.

He added that there will also be a record of his vaccination with the health organization that provided the vaccine on MyChart, and the state of Ohio maintains a central immunization database.

Pilz said that although it is not necessary to carry the card on a day-to-day basis, if you travel abroad you should check if it is necessary at any stop on the trip.

If you lose your card, Pilz said, new cards will be available, but substitutes will be blank, so you should contact the organization that provided your vaccine to fill it out.
