‘Once upon a time’ creators return to ABC with ‘epic’ fairy tale anthology

The Disney-focused drama is one of the two drivers the broadcast network has chosen.

Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are back in business at ABC.

The transmission network distributed pilot orders for two dramas, including anthology Epic in Once Upon a time creators.

Epic it is described as a romantic anthology that reinvents fairy tales for a new audience. Sources say it will be focused on Disney properties while its former ABC drama explored snow White and other iconic characters.

Brigitte Hales, who worked with Kitsis and Horowitz in Once Upon a time and your apple Incredible stories anthology, will write the script and perform the production alongside the duo. The drama comes from ABC Signature, where Kitsis and Horowitz are under a long-standing general agreement. The duo signed a four-year renewal in 2018 that at the time was believed to have made Kitsis and Horowitz the studio’s highest-paid drama producers after Shonda Rhimes moved to Netflix.

The potential series marks the return of Kitsis and Horowitz, who started their careers at ABC Lost and became some of the studio’s most important producers after the release Once Upon a time. The fairy tale drama spanned seven seasons and has become a global phenomenon and a source of income for Disney. The series ended in May 2018.

Elsewhere, ABC’s second pilot drama order is for Queens, a hip-hop drama by Zahir McGhee. The potential series revolves around four distant and out of reach women in their 40s who come together for a chance to recapture the fame and arrogance they had as Nasty Bitches – their group from the 90s that made them legends in the world of hip hop. Shondaland alum McGhee (Scandal, private practice) will write the script and produce alongside Sabrina Wind (Desperate Housewives)

Epic and Queens bring the current ABC drama pilot crop to four. They join Sam Esmail Crime acts and 2020 remaining Screening.
