Olympic gold medalist ski jumper hospitalized after terrible accident at an event in Slovenia

Olympic gold medalist ski jumper Daniel-Andre Tande was hospitalized and put into an induced coma after a terrible accident at an event in Slovenia on Thursday.

The Norwegian skiing star lost control during his jump at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Planica and fell hard into the snow before falling down the slope. The medical team examined him for 30 minutes and administered oxygen. A helicopter flew him to a hospital in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

“We are extremely grateful for professional first aid and medical care after the fall. The fall looked dramatic to us and now we are relieved after the first diagnosis that Daniel’s injuries are not fatal, we have complete confidence in the University Clinical Center in Ljubljana,” said Clas Brede Brathen, leader of the Norwegian ski jumping team.

Dr. Tomislav Mirkovic said that “Tande’s preliminary tests are very promising”.

Officials said there would be an update sometime on Friday.

Tande was on the big hill men’s team with a gold medal during the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. He also took home gold medals at the 2016, 2018 and 2020 World Championships and silver in 2017.

He has seven individual wins during his World Cup career and 13 team wins.
