LG will make its webOS software available to other companies.

Proprietary software on LG devices themselves may be licensed by external TV brands, the company announced Wednesday. Notably, TV brands that choose to bring LG software to their TVs will also receive their Magic Motion remote control, an excellent cursor shaped wand. He would also see the same voice control tools, algorithms and applications – including LG channels – included on those monitors, the company said.

“By welcoming other manufacturers to join the webOS TV ecosystem, we are embarking on a new path that allows many new TV owners to experience the same excellent experience and features that are available on LG TVs. We look forward to bringing these new customers to the incredible world of webOS TV, ”said Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Home Entertainment Company, in a statement.

The news follows LG’s announcement at CES earlier this year that webOS was getting a pretty drastic overhaul. LG’s interface in the past had a blade-like design that kept the navigation menu in the bottom third of the screen. But with webOS 6.0, which will be included in 2,021 TVs, LG replaced the blade design with a more standard interface that looks much more like Google TV, which is also being licensed to TV makers and will appear on devices other than Chromecast this year, including TCL and Sony TVs.

More than 20 TV manufacturers have already signed a contract to bring webOS to their devices, according to the company, including RCA, Ayonz and Konka.
