Old Town Shooting: Man shot to death on Chestnut Street; multiple shootings in philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – A man was killed while walking in the Old Town part of Philadelphia on a violent night across the city, where three other people were shot and wounded.

A 25-year-old man and his girlfriend were walking near 3rd and Chestnut streets around 9:30 pm on Monday, when there were shots, police said.

According to the authorities, four men jumped out of a van and fired a volley of bullets near the Institute of History of Science, in the heart of the Old Town. At least 27 cartridges were fired.

The man was hit in the chest and died on the spot.

“It is very rare that we have shootings in this particular area. This victim was shot many, many times. As far as I know, there was no exchange of words, neither theft nor a fight. It seems that they jumped out of that vehicle targeting this 25-year-old victim.” , said Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department.

According to Small, all four suspects shot the victim.

Police believe the suspects fled in a gold or silver minivan with Maryland tags.

The bloodshed in the city did not stop there.

Philadelphia police were scattered throughout the city from Monday night to Tuesday morning due to several shootings.

Early in the evening, police said a 41-year-old man and a 50-year-old man were shot at about 5 pm on Block 6100 on Carpenter Street. Both men are listed in a stable condition.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

At around 7:13 pm, police said three people were shot at block 400 on Annsbury Street in Hunting Park. A 32-year-old man was hit several times during a barbecue, police said. He later died in the hospital.

A 29-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were also shot. Both victims were listed in stable condition at a hospital in the area.

A 34-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot in the chest at 8:28 pm on block 200 of E. Indiana Avenue in Kensington. It is listed in a critical state.

Shortly after 11 pm on Monday, a man was killed in a shootout in western Philadelphia.

Police said the shooting occurred at block 1500 on North 62nd Street.

The victim, a man who looked to be in his 20s, was shot several times while sitting in the driver’s seat of a working truck. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Three houses were hit by stray bullets. No one inside the houses was hurt.

“We are very lucky in that respect,” said Small.

In all, the police said 38 shots were fired in this incident with at least two different weapons.

The victim’s vehicle was shot more than 20 times, police said.

The officers found several surveillance cameras on the block, which they hope will lead to the suspect.

Around midnight on Tuesday, the police were called in for a shootout in northern Philadelphia.

According to police, the suspect discharged at least five shots on 9th and Luzerne streets.

The bullets entered the driver’s door of a car and hit a man, believed to be about 30, who was sitting in the passenger seat.

He was shot twice in the chest and taken to the hospital where he died.

There was no one else in the vehicle.

Small said some of the bullets went through the vehicle completely, exiting the passenger side, and hit another parked car.

Small said that no bullet capsules were found at the scene, meaning that a revolver may have been used.

Several companies in the area have surveillance cameras that can help with the investigation.

No arrests were made in connection with these shootings. Anyone with information should call the police at 215-686-TIPS.
