Oklahoma residents can only receive a COVID vaccine with an appointment scheduled, state health leaders say

The state health department said that your vaccination application will be live on Thursday so that you can apply for a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as your group is eligible.

“We were originally planning to use an application provided by the CDC,” said Deputy Commissioner of Health Keith Reed. “When they really got to the point of implementing it, it didn’t meet our needs.”

Since the CDC application did not fit what state leaders wanted, they started working with Microsoft to create a new application. The state said the CDC application would have required the entire state to use it, while also causing many providers to learn a new system.

“When you have a short time to put it together, you have occasional delays,” said Reed. “We weren’t going to wait for technology to give us the green light to move on.”

With many Oklahoma residents living without Internet services, the state said it is working to fill that gap.

“One of the things I think we are looking at is to limit the number of appointments made through the application, for example. Then, book a number of appointments that can be won by other needs to try to help those who do not have access to the application of the technology, “said Reed.

The app will verify residence in Oklahoma and will allow you to make a reservation across the state.

“We are not limiting someone to be a resident in a particular county to get the vaccine. Many people travel to work and there are a number of circumstances, ”said Reed.

The state-owned company said the only way to get vaccinated is by scheduling an appointment.
