Oilers-Canadiens delayed when two Montreal players join the NHL COVID-19 protocol

The game scheduled for Monday night between Edmonton Oilers and host Canadiens was postponed after two Montreal players were placed on the league’s COVID-19 protocol.

Strikers Joel Armia and Jesperi Kotkaniemi became the first Montreal players to join the protocol since the start of the season on January 13.

The league announced the postponement less than an hour before the 7:00 pm start time at the Bell Center.

The postponement was 38th overall this season for coronavirus-related reasons, and the first to involve seven teams from the Canadian Northern Division.

The league listed 10 players in the protocol, with the Los Angeles Kings still awaiting test results. The 10 players listed are the highest number of matches since February 21.

A total of 157 NHL players have spent at least one day on the COVID-19 protocol this season. Calgary is the only team that does not have a player listed.
