Ohio State’s EJ Liddell shares threatening messages he received after the elimination of the NCAA tournament

Ohio State striker EJ Liddell accessed Twitter after Friday’s impressive defeat to Oral Roberts to share disturbing messages from disgruntled fans following Buckeye’s early elimination from the NCAA tournament.

Liddell, 20, shared screenshots of the vulgar and threatening messages he received on Instagram immediately after runner-up Buckeyes lost 75-72 in overtime to No.15 Eagles.

“Honestly, what did I do to deserve this? I’m human,” said the sophomore sniper.

One user sent several messages containing derogatory language and racial slurs. In a message, he says to Liddell: “I hope someone will shoot you in the face [sic] bruh you are a fucking bum. ”

In a separate message, he tells Liddell that he wants to “kill him”.

Another screen capture shows messages from a user who was harassing Liddell earlier in the week and again on Friday.

“Piece of s —“, wrote the person. “You did it again.”

They continued, “You are a disgrace. Never show your face in Ohio … I hope you die, I really do.”

Liddell said the comments themselves didn’t bother him. He just wants to know “why”.

“I’ve never done anything to anyone in my life to be approached that way,” he wrote in another tweet. “That’s not me saying anything negative about Ohio State fans. I love you all so much and I haven’t felt anything but appreciated since the first day I set foot on campus.”

Despite the big upset, Liddell had 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Buckeyes.

“This is obviously a very, very bitter end to a fantastic season,” said Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann. “We will take over and accept, and move on.”
