Ohio State women’s basketball wins the undefeated Michigan and Maryland and ranks first in the top ten

The Buckeyes are at the top of the Big Ten.

After two huge victories over Michigan and Maryland, previously undefeated, the Ohio State women’s basketball team is now at the top of the Big Ten ranking.

The Buckeyes gave the Wolverines their first loss of the season on Thursday, defeating their rivals 81-77, despite a 50-point program record from Michigan striker Naz Hillmon.

Ohio followed that up with another impressive win on Monday night, beating No. 7 Maryland 88-86 to take first place in the Big Ten and give the Terrapins their first loss of the season.

With both victories, the Buckeyes are now 9-1 in the season, with the lone defeat coming from the road against Nebraska last week. The impressive start to the season was a team effort with five players averaging double figures in the season.

Ohio State is led offensively by point guard Jacy Sheldon, averaging 17.7 points per game. Sheldon is followed, not far, by striker Dorka Juhasz, who averages double-double this season with 16.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Madison Green, Aaliyah Patty and Braxtin Miller also average two digits, scoring 14.0, 11.9 and 10.6 points per game, respectively.

The Buckeyes will not have much time to enjoy this victory, however, as they now face consecutive games against No. 16 Indiana and No. 23 Northwestern, scoring four straight games against qualified opponents.
