Ohio State Ryan Stamper leaving OSU to join Urban Meyer’s team at JAX

That has been the question and concern in everyone’s mind when former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer accepted the job of coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Would Meyer take someone from the current OSU team to build his efforts in the global NFL domain on JAX?

It turns out that Meyer doesn’t believe this is in his or Ohio State’s interest, but he pulled the trigger on a current employee, Ryan Stamper. Stamper served as assistant director of player development in Columbus, but played for Meyer in Florida as a two-time captain, winning national titles in 2006 and 2008.

After a short spell out of football, Stamper was hired for Ohio State in 2012, where he has been ever since. It helps to lead “Wednesdays in real life” and other initiatives aimed at helping the athlete to balance football and life off the field holistically. His defeat is greatly underestimated, but it appears to be the team’s only blow that OSU will take from Meyers’ foray into the coaching career. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was the first to report the news.

Stamper was born in Jacksonville, so it’s also an opportunity to come home. It’s hard to blame a guy for that and we wish him the best.
