Ohio reports 7,271 new cases of coronavirus, exceeds 500,000 doses of vaccine: Thursday update

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio officials reported 7,271 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, above the 21-day moving average of 7,111.

In all, there have been 849,704 cases since the pandemic began last year.

“In fact, it was decreasing for a few days, and now it is rising again,” said Governor Mike DeWine during his briefing on Thursday.

Deaths were also above the 21-day average on Thursday: 109 people died in Ohio with COVID-19, bringing the total to 10,518 deaths. The 21-day average is 74.

The state follows the disease control and prevention center’s “case” definition, which includes those diagnosed by genetic PCR or antigen tests, or people diagnosed in a clinical setting – experiencing symptoms that are linked to a confirmed COVID-19 case. , among other criteria.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, 18,219 doses of the coronavirus vaccine were administered. A total of 500,176 shots were fired. This represents 4.28% of the state’s population.

The figures released by the Ohio Department of Health:

-712,864 people recovered from COVID-19.

– More than 8.2 million tests for PCR and molecular coronavirus have been carried out until Thursday, an increase of 46,412 since Wednesday.

-9.2% of the PCR and molecular tests were positive on Tuesday, the most recent day for the positivity rate. The seven-day moving average starting on Tuesday is 10% positive.

-There were 150 fewer people hospitalized on Thursday with COVID-19, 3,406 patients, compared to Wednesday. This number will be adjusted in the coming days to more accurately reflect admissions and discharge at all Ohio hospitals.
