Ohio records 5,857 new coronavirus cases, 33 deaths: Sunday update

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reported on Sunday that the number of confirmed or likely infections from the new coronavirus has increased to 670,525, an increase from 5,857 since Saturday.

The number of Ohioans died from the coronavirus increased by 33, to 8,509.

The state reported 11,080 new cases and 20 deaths on Saturday, although those numbers were a combination of the December 25 and 26 statistics.

COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state have increased by 273 in the past 24 hours, which is less than the 21-day moving average of 360 daily hospitalizations. Thirty patients with COVID-19 were transferred to the ICU in the last 24 hours, also below the 21-day moving average of 39.

Sunday’s case count is much lower than the 21-day continuous average, which currently stands at 9,310 cases.

There are more than 80.5 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and more than 1.7 million deaths worldwide, according to researchers at Johns Hopkins. In the USA, there are about 19 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and more than 332,000 deaths from COVID-19.
