Ohio policeman fatally shot at standoff with arson suspect

An Ohio police officer died after a shooting with a suspect, the Toledo Police Department said on Monday.

Chief George Kral identified the officer as 24-year-old Brandon Stalker. According to Kral, Stalker was hit once by the suspect, who brandished two firearms when he left a house he entered after an exchange with the police.

“This is a very dark and horrible day for the city of Toledo,” Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz told a news conference.

Around 3:53 pm Eastern time, police officers noticed the suspect, wanted in a previous vandal and arson in a city cathedral, smoking a cigarette on Fulton Street.

According to abc13, the historic Cathedral of the Rosary was vandalized with graffiti that said “Jesus is black” and “Jesus black”. The damage was estimated at $ 5,100. Kral said the police had sent warrants to the suspect.
