Representative Mike Reese, R-Westmoreland / Somerset, “died peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday afternoon at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg after an apparent cerebral aneurysm,” said Representative Kerry Benninghoff, the majority leader, in a statement posted on the official website of House de Reese and on its Facebook page. Reese was 42 years old.
Reese, first elected to the state chamber in 2008, served as secretary of the Republican Party caucus in the 2019-20 session.
“More than a friend to all of us, and one of our caucus leaders, Mike was a dedicated husband and father,” said Benninghoff, calling Reese “a model lawmaker who thoughtfully put his voters first.”
Reese said that on December 7, he recently learned that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was quarantined the week before after learning of his exposure to the virus.
Reese leaves his wife Angela and three children.
