The Packers have the reigning MVP in quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but they also switched to quarterback draft Jordan Love in the first round of last year.
Love spent his entire debut season as the Packers’ third quarterback, inactive on match day with Tim Boyle serving as a reserve for Rodgers. Without an off-season program in 2020, Love only received substantial representatives during the team’s abbreviated training camp last summer. This means that love could use as much practice as possible in 2021.
“It will be a challenge for him”, Said Packers’ offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett, on Tuesday. “Obviously, we don’t know what is going to happen now about how we are going to be able to work with the players. I always think that being in the system for the second year is very important for the defender, understanding the language, understanding how we do our day-to-day process.
“Even though I am able to go out and practice – I mean, this is huge. So I think for him, it is growing more in the offensive system, even more than it already has. Just making it yours. … Obviously, we are very excited if we can practice because I think it is something that he needs. The last time he really managed to do it after training was on the training ground. So, if that’s what we’re dealing with, then it’ll be the training camp when he can really take a few steps and get those quick full-time reps. In addition, it is about studying and he has to work alone because we cannot see him ”.
With Rodgers still acting at an MVP level, it is unclear when Love can see the field as a beginner. But Love must at least progress to the level of a backup in 2021 to give the Packers some kind of return on their heavy investment in 2020.
