Syracuse, NY – The New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse is one of several Covid-19 mass vaccination sites opened this week in New York.

The fair grounds, as well as others at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York and the Westchester County Convention Center in White Plains, open on Wednesday.

A website at the Utica Memorial Auditorium will open next week, according to a tweet from Melissa DeRosa, advisor to Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Other venues to open this week include Jones Beach, Nassau County, on Thursday, and a venue at State University of New York Albany, on Friday.

More venues to open next week include SUNY Stony Brook on Long Island, SUNY Binghamton property in Johnson City, Dome Arena near Rochester, Plattsburgh Airport, SUNY Potsdam, University at Buffalo South Campus and the Aqueduct Race Track in Queens.

The state is planning up to 20 mass distribution sites as eligibility for the Covid-19 vaccine expands.

As of today, millions more people can be shot, including police, firefighters, teachers and other education workers and people aged 75 and over. Health workers and nursing home residents have been eligible for weeks.

With vaccine eligibility expanding to around 5 million people in total, thousands of pharmacies, doctors’ offices and local health departments will also begin to supply vaccines. Onondaga County has vaccinated people at the downtown Syracuse War Memorial since December.

A new state website went live this morning that allows eligible New Yorkers to search for vaccine locations. Appointments are mandatory.

Governor Andrew Cuomo warned that it will probably be difficult to obtain shots until the federal government can increase supplies. He said last week that New Yorkers can wait weeks or months for a vaccine if more is not produced and shipped to New York.
