We saw several configurations of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards that were rumored and canceled shortly thereafter. It seems that NVIDIA is still deciding what to do next with its Ampere line and, as such, there are new rumors emerging Kopite7kimi (via Videocardz), according to whom, NVIDIA is preparing two new SKUs that could possibly be GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER supposedly in consideration, can have 16 GB GDDR6 (X) VRAM?
For starters, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER will not affect the next line of cards that would include the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3060. The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti could be a totally different story since we heard about this SKU for a while, but nothing has been formulated other than some rumored specs. The RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3070 Ti were also canceled and re-released to different specifications a few times.
The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will even be introduced before the RTX 3070 Ti, so the status of this specific SKU has not yet been confirmed. At the same time, one thing to note about the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3060 is how they both have much larger memory capacities than their predecessors. The RTX 3080 Ti replaces the RTX 2080 Ti with a larger 9 GB VRAM (11 GB vs 20 GB) and the RTX 3060 replaces the RTX 2060 with twice the memory buffer (6 GB vs 12 GB). The same can happen with the SUPER series that NVIDIA planned.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and RTX 3070 SUPER
We don’t have specific specifications for these two chips, but if we go back to earlier rumors, we can say that NVIDIA initially planned higher VRAM variants of the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 graphics cards. The RTX 3080 was expected to feature 12-16 GB of VRAM , while the RTX 3070 should also have similar amounts of VRAM. However, this plan was dropped in favor of NVIDIA going crazy with its RTX 3090 design and keeping the rest of the line limited to 10 GB VRAM due to the limited availability of GDDR6 (X) modules.
I know that some new SKUs have recently appeared, but I still don’t know their names, maybe 3070 Super and 3080 Super.

When the RTX 3080 Ti is released, the memory supply will be much better. NVIDIA itself also confirmed that the supply would improve at the end of the first quarter of 2021, so that’s probably when NVIDIA can come up with a better plan to relaunch its GeForce RTX lineup in a SUPER way.
For this purpose, GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER and GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER could be the first to enter the line. Similar to the previous generation, NVIDIA would not like to touch the latest generation models, as they will be positioned exactly against the competition. It is the RTX 3080 and lower lines, such as RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti, that would require a SUPER upgrade to handle AMD’s Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6700 series.
GA102 and GA103S

For that purpose alone, NVIDIA could end up with 16 GB of GDDR6 (X) memory in both the RTX 3080 SUPER (GDDR6X) and GeForce 3070 SUPER (GDDR6). As for the core configurations, they can also change with the GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER which should use the GA103S GPU while the GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER will keep its GA102 GPU.
However, a critical thing to consider here is prices. If NVIDIA offers a price cut on existing variants and ends production to make room for new cards that are similar to what they did in the last generation, or to keep existing cards and offer SUPER variants at a small premium, that will still be visa. Finally, don’t wait for the SUPER cards anytime soon, as the green team hasn’t finished with the original lineup yet. We can probably expect an announcement around Computex or during the summer, which was also the case for the GeForce RTX 20 SUPER line.
