Nvidia Launches RTX 3000 Laptop GPUs for January 12

Nvidia began to trigger its launch of the RTX 3000 series for laptops. The GPU maker is hosting a virtual press event for CES tomorrow, and is widely expected to reveal the mobile versions of the RTX 3000 series GPUs. A new video teaser includes a very clear hint from a laptop, along with a few other announcements that Nvidia will likely do.

Tom’s Guide notes that the teaser includes four images: a gaming laptop, the Outriders game, a resizable GeForce RTX logo and BAR (Base Address Register). The gaming laptop suggests RTX 3000 mobile GPUs, but the RTX logo is also likely to provoke other desktop GPUs. Rumors suggest that Nvidia is ready to unveil an RTX 3060 GPU that will be priced below Nvidia’s latest RTX 3060 Ti card.

Resizable BAR support looks like a tip for a driver update for Nvidia RTX cards. Much like AMD’s intelligent access memory, Nvidia can increase the transfer rate between a CPU and GPU to improve frame rates. Motherboard manufacturers will need to provide BIOS updates to enable this for Intel and AMD CPUs, but the Nvidia teaser suggests that it is ready to launch the necessary driver support as well.

Nvidia is hosting its CES press event at 9 am PT / 12 pm ET on January 12, and we will cover all announcements as they happen.
