Nurse suspended for removing her PPE to have sex with a Covid-19 patient in an Indonesian hospital

Nurse who took her PPE off to have sex with a male patient with coronavirus in a hospital bathroom is suspended in Indonesia

  • The incident came to light after the patient bragged on Twitter
  • Both men were identified by the police and admitted to the sexual encounter
  • They face up to 10 years in prison if convicted under the Indonesian Pornography Act, which human rights groups claim to be used to target LGBTQ + people in the country.

A nurse in Indonesia was suspended after admitting that she removed her personal protective equipment to have sex with a coronavirus patient.

The two men reportedly escaped to a bathroom in a hospital for the meeting, which only surfaced after the patient boasted about it in his now private Twitter account on Friday.

He allegedly carried what he said was a screenshot of flirting messages on WhatsApp between the pair, which included detailed discussions about lubricants and the size of men’s genitals.

The man also posted an image of what appeared to be the nurse’s PPE dropped to the floor during the meeting.

“It is true that there was a suspected same-sex relationship incident between a health worker and a COVID-19 patient at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital,” said Asep Gunawan of the National Nurses Association of Indonesia.

The expat from Indonesia reported that both men were identified and admitted to the sexual encounter.

The hospital was the accommodation of the athletes of the 2018 Asian Games, before being transformed into a hospital during the coronavirus pandemic.

The nurse, whose test was negative for Covid-19, was turned over to the police for ‘legal proceedings’. The patient is isolating himself in the hospital because he is still positive for the virus.

‘This case was transferred to the Jakarta Central Police. We managed to get the health professional to become a witness and we asked for more information, ‘said the New York Post, Lt. Col. Arh Herwin of the Regional Military Command.

“In the meantime, the patient remains isolated in the Casa do Atleta,” he added, referring to a former Asian Games athlete hosting village that has been transformed into a coronavirus hospital.

If convicted, men face up to 10 years in prison under the Indonesian Pornography Act.

Human Rights Watch accused Indonesian authorities of deliberately using the law to target LGBTQ + people in the conservative Islamic country.

Although homosexuality has never been criminalized in Indonesia, there are also no laws that explicitly protect the rights of LGBTQ + people, leaving them vulnerable to persecution.

The nurse and the patient can be prosecuted under the Pornography Law for shared posts on Twitter.

Indonesia saw an increase in coronavirus cases, registering 7,903 new infections on Thursday, for a total of 727,000.

Meanwhile, 251 deaths were recorded on Thursday in the country where 21,703 people have died from Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
