Nuala Mary (Maude) Massett of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away on March 8, 2021. Nuala was born on December 23, 1937, in Oranmore, County Galway, Ireland and resided in Ireland, as well as in London, England, until her marriage to her late husband; the true and unique love of his life, Edward Massett, in 1961. Nuala and Eddie raised their family in Manlius, where they lived for many years before retiring and moving to Hilton Head Island in 1990.
During her career, Nuala taught at Montessori School in London, England, and for many years was an employee of Merchants Bank in Fayetteville. In her retirement, Nuala volunteered for many charities serving the less fortunate in the Hilton Head Island community. Nuala was also a longtime member and reader of the Roman Catholic Church St. Francis by the Sea. She and her husband were among the founding members of the parish who, along with her dear friend and pastoral counselor, Father Joseph Majewski, helped to raise the funds needed to build the church in its current location.
Nuala leaves her children; Eamon Thomas (Marguerite) Massett and Brendan Joseph (Randi) Massett; yours grandchildren; Ryan Massett, Reese Massett and Hayden Massett; his brother and sister, Joseph Maude and Eithne O’Mahoney, and many dear nieces and nephews, both in the United States and in Ireland. Nuala has also left countless dear friends, both in New York and South Carolina, whom she has always treated as part of her family. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Massett was killed by her sister, Evelyn Casey.
The family will welcome visitors from 11 am to 2 pm on Monday, March 22, 2021, at The Island funeral home, 4 Cardinal Road, Hilton Head Island, SC.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, in St. Francis by the Sea, Hilton Head Island, SC. Nuala will be buried with her husband at the Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
Instead of flowers, the Nuala family asks that contributions be made in their memory to the Low Country Pregnancy Center and Clinic at pregncenterhhi.org.
