Nreal reveals business edition of mixed reality glasses

Nreal is unveiling a new mixed reality headset for corporate users and is also making its Nreal Light model available in other countries, following its launch in Korea and Japan last year.

Starting today, Nreal will expand Nreal Light to new important markets, including the European Union and the United States. The corporate edition makes sense because the technology is still very expensive for consumers. Corporate customers, on the other hand, don’t mind paying more for sophisticated mixed-reality solutions, especially if it makes high-paid employees more productive.

The corporate headset is due to be launched in 2021. One of the best points for mixed reality technology, whether its virtual reality or augmented reality, has been virtual training, where the costs of making mistakes with very expensive equipment are not so high as they would be in the real world.

Asked about the timing of the business edition, Nreal told VentureBeat that while Nreal Light offers a compact and lightweight format that resonates with consumers, business customers have also been using these MR glasses in conjunction with the proprietary computing package (CPU) of Nreal as a device company.

It is also launching new content and technology partners, including Finch Technology’s FinchRing, a hands-free MR controller. The FinchRing is a new hands-free six degrees of freedom (6DoF) mixed reality controller that offers complete freedom of movement and continuous interaction with 360 degree spatial tracking. FinchRing works inside or outside the field of view (FoV) of Nreal Light and can be used indoors, outdoors and in any weather condition.

Last year, Nreal launched its mixed reality glasses Nreal Light, with the goal of making augmented reality more accessible to consumers. In 2021, Nreal wants to bring mass adoption a step further.

Nreal is entering the fray with a new class of corporate headsets. The company is launching a lightweight, customizable MR headset that the company will display at Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2021.

The Nreal Enterprise Edition is connected to a computing unit and battery for long-lasting power. Sporting a wraparound halo design, the Nreal Enterprise Edition also offers a balanced fit from front to back. And for added convenience, users can also control the corporate headset using eye tracking and gesture recognition technologies.

The company targets business customers in the manufacturing, retail, tourism, education, logistics and automotive markets. Both software and hardware can be made to order.

Nreal said the launch of Nreal Light in Korea went well, as it launched at 20 LG Uplus retail stores in Korea, and has since expanded to 220 locations across the country. LG Uplus has also expanded its catalog of Nreal Light-compatible applications from 700 to 3,000, as developers and operators support the mobile platform.

Users spend an average of 49 minutes a day on Nreal Light. The top 20% spend an average of 120 minutes a day. Nreal also launched its headset in Japan in partnership with KDDI.

Nreal Light will be launched in the European Union through a partnership with the two leading operators in the region, while it will be launched in the United States in the second quarter of 2021. Nreal will show new MR applications arriving at Nreal Light during the Mobile World Congress. This includes Tagesschau 2025, a weather app that emits a holographic weather anchor before your eyes; Dunkaar, a basketball game where you can shoot and dunk virtual basketballs; Dragon Awakening, an online heroic fantasy game; Magenta Sport, an AR version of football; and an MR version of the Space Channel 5 rhythm game.

The company still does not disclose its sales. Nreal has raised $ 85 million so far, including a recent round of $ 55 million. It has 250 employees.
