Notre Dame’s attack looks quite different next year, as another key piece has decided to enter the NFL’s 2021 Draft. Tight end Tommy Tremble decided to become a professional and move on to the National Football League.
As a junior, Tremble totaled 19 receptions for 218 yards. He received an honorable mention from All-ACC after the season. In the previous year, he had 16 receptions for 183 yards and four hits. He won the game ball in the win against Louisville, after posting three receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown. As a freshman, Tremble saw no action in the game, but he was a key member of the scouting team at Fighting Irish that year.
“He is extremely athletic. He can go out in the zone to block in space, ”said the head coach of Notre Dame Brian Kelly in late March 2019, months before Tremble’s debut in college football. “He is very agile. There is definitely a role for the guy. Within our offensive structure, we have the tight end that is in an H position. It fits very well in the H-back position for us. I think that’s where you’ll see it used mostly this year. ”
The best years of Tremble are certainly ahead of you. As he continues to improve as a pass catcher, Tremble will see his game jump to another level. An impressive route runner with impressive athletics and above average speed, with an ability to open up, it can be argued that the best attributes of Tremble at this point are its block, physicality and endurance.
“When I grew up, I used to pay for the defense, so I was used to always looking for contact,” said Tremble. “I played a little bit of running back; I never shied away from that and my father kind of taught me that the more scared you are, the more hurt you will be.
“And I think we bring that kind of general fearlessness to our attack. Nobody shies away from contact. This is really demonstrated by the physicality we have as a team.
“We are 100 percent until the final whistle of the fourth quarter,” he added. “We attribute this physicality … no matter what is going on, you know that we will never run away from it. And I think it helped not only our team, but also me, individually, to be able to have confidence, knowing that the man next to me will experience the same difficulty.
The 6-4 and 248 pound equipment from the Wesleyan School of Norcross (Georgia) was part of Notre Dame’s 2018 class. He was recruited to Notre Dame by the former tight end coach and offensive coordinator Chip Long. He chose Fighting Irish over scholarship offers from Auburn, Cal, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA and many others.
Outside of high school, 247Sports Composite Rankings listed him as number 21 in the national tight end and potential number 52 in Georgia. 247Sports ranked him a little above as talent number 20 in his position and number 39 in his home state in that cycle.
