Northeast Ohio can see gusts of wind around 60 mph today

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A cold front moving across northeastern Ohio will increase the wind overnight, with the National Weather Service warning of gusts of up to 60 mph.

The Meteorological Service issued a strong wind alert for Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina and Ashland counties as of 11 pm today. A strong wind clock takes effect at 2 am Friday morning for Ashtabula, Geauga, Holmes, Lake, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull and Wayne counties.

The sustained winds during the night will be around 25 to 35 mph, with stronger gusts around 60 mph. Winds can cause trees and power lines to fall.

Widespread power outages are expected, according to the Meteorological Service. Traveling can also be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, such as tractor trailers.

The notice will remain in effect until noon on Friday, while the clock will expire at 2:00 pm

A cold front is bringing volatile weather to northeastern Ohio. Rain is expected during the night and there is a possibility of thunderstorms. After highs around 70 degrees today, the highs will be around 50 degrees on Friday.
