Since moving to the 1A classification and the Yadkin Valley Conference, the North Stanly football team has consistently beaten one team: South Davidson.
The Comets entered the game at home on Friday after beating South Davidson nine times in a row and winning the Wildcats 10-1.
North kept the winning streak alive with a 51-0 win over South Davidson, the Comets’ fifth consecutive loss to the Wildcats.
Defensively, the Comets limited South Davidson (0-3, 0-2) to 67 net total yards, all on the ground, while forcing three fumbles.
The Northern attack exploded for a total of 411 net yards with six touchdowns. Cameron Smith and Christain Barber scored two touchdowns each, with Smith gaining 120 yards on nine loads. Quarterback Luke Shaver and running back Karee Dykes also scored TDs on the floor.
Shaver also launched a touchdown pass to Junior Hill in the third quarter, which put the Comets at 42-0 and started the timer for the rest of the game.
North Stanly will travel Friday to Albemarle to face the Bulldogs (0-1). Albemarle has not played since the 6-0 defeat on February 26 at Chatham Central. The COVID-19 protocols forced the cancellation of Bulldogs’ games against North Moore and North Rowan.
