BISMARCK, ND (AP) – North Dakota health officials said on Sunday that the state’s COVID-19 update did not list any deaths for the second consecutive day and showed another drop in hospitalizations.
The number of people in need of medical care has decreased by 13 in the past two days to 72. Ten patients are being treated in intensive care units. The state hospital tracker reports that there are 34 ICU beds and 371 inpatient beds available in North Dakota.
The number of fatalities due to coranvirus complications is 1,352. Data compiled on Saturday by researchers at Johns Hopkins University ranks North Dakota sixth per capita in the country, with about 178 deaths per 100,000 people.
Health officials said 93 of the 3,352 virus tests processed on the last day were positive, or 3.16% of them. A total of 94,716 cases have been confirmed since the pandemic began.
North Dakota’s state mask mandate runs through Jan. 18.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that go away in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more serious illnesses, including pneumonia and death.
