North Carolina man accused of threatening to kill President Biden

David Kyle Reeves, 27, of Gastonia, North Carolina, was arrested on February 5 for intentionally and intentionally making life-threatening and inflicting bodily injury on the president, according to newly opened court documents.

Prosecutors allege that, between January 28 and February 1, Reeves contacted the White House switchboard several times and made threats against President Biden and others.

In a phone call, Reeves is accused of saying he would kill everyone and “cut off their heads”, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint also alleges that a Secret Service agent contacted Reeves to discuss the threats. Reeves called the agent several times throughout the day making threats against the president, the agent and others.

Reeves told the Secret Service agent “that he had freedom of speech and did nothing wrong,” according to a statement in support of the criminal complaint.

Reeves appeared before a North Carolina federal judge on Thursday and was ordered to remain in custody.

“Mr. Reeves pleaded not guilty and received adequate mental health assessments,” said his attorney, Kevin Tate, senior litigation attorney at the West North Carolina Federal District Attorney’s Office, in an email to CNN .

Reeves is being held at Mecklenburg County Prison, according to prison records.

The charge of threatening the President of the United States carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of $ 250,000.
