Nor’easter ‘significant’ aims at LI; Snow estimates released

LONG ISLAND, NY – The National Weather Service released its first official snow estimates for a storm coming toward us early next week. A total of 4-8 inches is expected to accumulate on Long Island.

“There is growing potential for a significant winter storm / fog from Sunday night through Tuesday,” the weather service said in a dangerous weather forecast released for the region.

The strongest snow is probably Monday afternoon and evening. The potential for high winds and coastal flooding is also increasing.

Friday night- Almost clear, with a low of around 12. Thermal sensation values ​​between zero and 5. Northwest wind from 8 to 18 mph, with gusts up to 38 mph.

Saturday- Sunny, with a high close to 27. Thermal sensation values ​​between zero and 10. Northwest wind from 11 to 14 mph.

Saturday night – Generally clear, with a low temperature around 12. North wind from 5 to 10 mph, becoming light after midnight.

Sunday- Very cloudy, with a high close to 29. The thermal sensation is between 5 and 15. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable during the afternoon.

Sunday night – 50 percent chance of snow, mostly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low of around 25. Northeast wind 5 to 15 mph.

Monday – snow. High near 33. Windy. The chance of precipitation is 80%. Possible new accumulation of snow from 3 to 7 inches.

Monday night – snow. Low around 31. Storm. The chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tuesday – snow probably, especially before noon. Cloudy, with a high close to 34. Breezy. The chance of precipitation is 60%.
