Nomad’s tough leather cases for iPhone 12 now come with MagSafe

Nomad has updated its line of sturdy leather iPhone cases for the iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max and 12 mini with the long-awaited addition of support for Apple’s MagSafe charging standard.

At $ 59.95 for the normal case or $ 79.95 for the folio type, Nomad cases are no cheaper than, say, Apple’s official leather MagSafe cases. In fact, they cost $ 10 more than Nomad’s original line of iPhone 12 cases, which look virtually identical on the outside. (The new MagSafe cabinets will replace older models when inventory runs out, says the company.)

But Nomad’s cases are put together more solidly than those of Apple itself. As the “robust” in the name suggests, the Nomad models feature a plastic structure and a rubber structure that promises to protect the phone from drops of up to 3 meters. This protection comes at a cost, however: only the back of the box is actually covered with leather (which is the same Horween leather that Nomad uses in its other products). In 2017, my colleague Dan Seifert said that the iPhone X version of the cover “looks more like leather skin on a rubber cover than a complete leather experience”.

The standard Rugged Leather case is available in three colors: black, brown and natural leather, while the Rugged Folio case comes in black and brown. Both models are available for order today on the Nomad website.
