‘Nomadland’ voted best film by the National Society of Film Critics

Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” led this year’s National Society of Film Critics award, winning the top award in four categories. The film won best picture and best photograph, while Zhao was awarded as best director and star Frances McDormand was elected best actress.

The 55th annual voting meeting took place on Saturday, with the results being shared on the organization’s Twitter account as each category was voted. A weighted voting system required voters to select their first, second and third options for each category, with each position earning the film a different score. Category winners are those who received the most cumulative points.

Delroy Lindo won the title of best actor for his role in Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods”. Lindo’s portrait of a military veteran received critical acclaim throughout the year.

Maria Bakalova, who rose to fame after her performance in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”, won the award for best supporting actress in this year’s vote, while “Sound of Metal” star Paul Raci was considered the best supporting actress.

And although “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” did not reach the top of any of the acting categories, it was close to a victory in the categories of best actress, best actor and best supporting actor. Boseman, who was runner-up for best actor for his performance in the film led by Viola Davis, was also close to winning the award for best supporting actor for “Da 5 Bloods”. He took third place in the category.
