TThe new MagSafe charging of the iPhone 12 is a striking feature, but there is one thing that no one mentions: Disconnecting the phone from the charger is not easy, which means when you take the device and forget that it is being charged, you can pull the cable a little hard. Nomad solution for the problem is a 1.5 pound solid steel dock for the Apple wireless charger that takes advantage of gravity to easily break the MagSafe’s magnetic embrace.

The MagSafe Mount appears to be the simplest, brute-force way to improve the usability of Apple’s MagSafe Charger without physically connecting the disc to the surface of a table or nightstand. Even the installation looks easy enough. The MagSafe charger is placed in a precision unitcut the hole in the top of the MagSafe holder, where it is held securely in place by a non-permanent micro-suction tape that allows the disc to be removed as needed.

The charging cable is then routed to the base of the MagSafe holder, and that is all there is to do. When an iPhone 12 is placed on top, it automatically aligns and holds onto the wireless charging disc, but when users pick up their device, the force of gravity pulling down the 1.5 pound stainless steel dock is stronger than the MagSafe’s magnetic support, ensuring that everything except the phone remains firmly planted where it is.

It is a simple solution, but a it’s not cheap for $ 50. That one does not take into account the cost of any wireless charging hardware—all you’re getting is a piece of heavy steel. So why not use that micro-suction tape to attach the Apple MagSafe charger directly to a desk or table? Well, rpositioning the charger when a sticker is wrapped it is not as easy as moving the Nomad’s MagSafe holder. There is also a risk that the adhesive will ruin the finish of a desk or table. The Nomad mount has a giant non-slip rubber grip on the bottom that should protect any surface it sits on.
