There are official and unofficial updates from Nokia to share this weekend. First, the official news: Nokia brand owner HMD Global has announced a launch event for April 8, when we are likely to take a look at its next premium-level smartphone.
The event invitation uses the hashtag #LoveTrustKeep and has the image of a man looking at a canopy of trees. We are not sure if we can pick up anything from these clues as to what may be in store, but feel free to use your own imagination.
We haven’t heard many rumors about Nokia recently, but one possibility for what is being launched at this event is Nokia 10 – the long-awaited sequel to the highest spec phones currently on the Nokia line, Nokia 8.3 5G and Nokia 9 Pureview.
NokiaPowerUser has some interesting internal information that may be relevant here: its sources report that a new Nokia phone is on the way with an onboard Qualcomm Snapdragon 775 processor and a 108MP primary camera as one of the five cameras installed at the rear.
What’s in a name?
NokiaPowerUser continues to point out that the name Nokia G10 has been identified in regulatory documents, and Nokia’s rather stretched naming strategy for its smartphones could certainly use a good clean reboot.
More details revealed in the leak suggest support for 4K / 60 fps, 5G on-board video recording and compatibility with the latest Wi-Fi 6E networks and devices. It looks like we’re looking at a mid-range to premium phone here.
None of this is guaranteed yet, and we had already heard that Nokia was preparing a device with a Snapdragon 875 processor, now announced and available as Snapdragon 888. It is possible that several different models are in development.
However, something is coming up on April 8, be it the Nokia G10, a flagship phone with a different name, or neither. We will undoubtedly hear some more rumors and predictions about what is to come.
